Crime, Public Safety, RCMP, Rural Policing Challenges

This is in my platform. Safer. Langdon is thus far moving forward with a municipal policing committee. In the midst of municipalities opting out of the regional policing committees it is critical we in Langdon have a seat at the table. It’s an opportunity to proactively engage and develop priorities with the RCMP

The committees are contentious because, as reported, councils are unsure of the value of being at the table with the RCMP if the RCMP are not taking any direction. But I struggle to see how protesting that by being absent is remotely a better option.

If we are not at the table we won't have an opportunity to listen. To speak and be heard. We can identify provincial trends and discuss strategy, local priorities, and ways to collaborate. It would also create a great record for any future transitions, or negotiations for more. The RCMP’s crime reduction strategy relies on coordination with local partners. A willing partner helps us move forward together.

And with the discussion in Edmonton of a provincial police force we need every advantage moving forward to make Langdon a safer place.
