Provision of Emergency Services

The safety of our residents is paramount, and our volunteer fire department is the bedrock of that safety in Langdon.

There has been a slow attrition of the budget that is creating a real strain.

I understand the discussions around moving to a full-time model, often driven by concerns about burnout and availability. However, I firmly believe the solution is to double down on and properly invest in the volunteer system that makes our community unique. It's not just more cost-effective; it's a cherished institution where our neighbours are helping our neighbours.

My commitment is three-fold:

  • Budget for Retention and Recruitment: I will champion a budget that doesn't just maintain, but enhances the volunteer model.

  • Address the Strain Proactively: We need to ensure our Hall has enough volunteers, and those volunteers have the specific training and resources they need for our growing community.

  • Protect a Community Asset: My goal is to ensure that our capacity to respond not only keeps pace but improves, all while preserving the volunteer spirit that Langdon values so highly.
