How am I going to deal with a conflict between a vocal group of residents?
That's a fundamental measure of leadership. My decision-making process in those tough situations would be guided by three key principles: Listen, Analyze, and Decide.
First, Listen. I will give every single person a fair hearing. My years in advocacy trained me to dissect arguments and understand their true foundation. This is the essential for distinguishing between a well-organized 'special interest' and the genuine, long-term concerns of a neighborhood.
Second, Analyze. This is where I lean on the evidence. What do the official plans, the bylaws, and the expert administrative reports say? These documents exist for a reason. They provide the crucial, objective framework for the decision.
Finally, Decide. After that thorough process, I have to make a judgement call in the best long-term interest of Langdon and the county. I'm prepared to do that on council, and my door will be open for further discussion.
